Nadars are one of the largest and most influential castes of Tamil Nadu. The word Nadar means "one who rules the land". They are called Annachis in the colloquial language. Nadars have been celebrated for their bravery during the time of the Pandyan kings. Nadars are predominantly found in southern parts of Tamil Nadu. They are active in education and politics.
